Exclusive: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra Bookends Reveal
BY ROBERT KEOUGH
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Now to some, those are just a list if random nature words, but to the initiated, those words in that specific order are very familiar; Avatar. Out NOW, just in time for the holiday season, Dark Horse Comics has unleashed some absolutely stellar new Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra merch on the world in the form of fantastic looking limited edition bookends, adding a little flair to any collectors display.
Fans of anything know there is no worse feeling than that series coming to an end, but fortunately for fans of the Avatar franchise, the journeys of both of the franchise's main heroes actually carry on off the screen and onto the page. That's right, both Aang and Korra have comic book series, each keeping up with the adventures of their respective Avatar after their television show's conclusion. Working alongside the original creators, the comics stay true to the canon, allowing fans to explore unanswered questions from the series, like the mystery of Zuko's mother or the origins of his Blue Spirit mask, while also learning more about their favorite character's lives and quirks (such as Uncle Iroh inventing boba tea).
That's what makes these such a perfect gift, or even just a collector's item to buy oneself; any hardcore fan of the series will want to continue on the tale through the books, and with that, they will also need some way to store and display them. Without a doubt, there is no better way to rep that Avatar love than by storing the graphic novel series being protected on each end by the Avatars themselves.
Even if one doesn't own the graphic novels and simply loves the animated series, these bookends still serve as wonderful display pieces, acting as high-quality statues of the two protagonists. Each bookend features one of the two Avatars in their avatar state. As the last airbender himself, Aang is seen flexing one of his most signature airbending techniques, his infamous air scooter. Korra is representing her water tribe heritage by going full avatar state lifting herself in the air with a powerful raging whirlpool of water. Both Aang and Korra are on a rustic looking platform, matching the overall aesthetic of the series, with all four elemental symbols engraved behind them.
